Liz Sawyer

Choir director

Liz is an experienced choral director, having conducted choirs for over 25 years.

She began conducting while studying music in Liverpool.

Liz went on to become a primary and secondary school music teacher, conducting school choirs, and the Liverpool Philharmonic training choir.

Her love of all things choral continued to grow, with Liz leading a number of choirs in North Yorkshire. Liz currently conducts the fabulous The Stray Notes community choir in Harrogate.

With The Stray Notes, Liz founded the Harrogate Community Choir Festival in 2024, to celebrate the work of the amazing choirs in and around Harrogate.

She began Singing Communities in 2019 with the wonderful Singing Communities: Poppleton choir.

Liz is delighted to be expanding Singing Communities choirs to Harrogate, Knaresborough and Tadcaster, spreading the joy of singing and community through song.

Singing Communities

Singing Communities is for everyone! We do not have auditions, and you do not need to have sung in a choir before.

We do use sheet music, but you don't have to be able to read music!

Liz will teach all the songs through call and response, making all our singing sessions relaxed, enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

We sing a variety of music in 2 & 3 parts.

We sing pop, musicals, folk, sacred, world music and more!

There is something for everyone.
